Conquering the Green-Eyed Monster (Free Short Story) |
 |
"Holly, where are you? Jake called for his wife. After a fast-paced game of racquetball with Alex, Jake was sweaty and hungry. Definitely, not in the mood for searching.
Taking the stairs two at a time, he called louder, "Holly, where the hell are you?"
Receiving no answer, he gave up and decided to take a shower and wait until she showed up. Whipping off his damp tee shirt, he turned the doorknob on the bedroom door and found it was locked. Surprised, he tried again, unsuccessfully.
Leaning against the doorframe, he struggled to contain his anger. Knowing the locked bedroom door and no answer from Holly signaled an argument over something.
"Holly, open this door."
"No, I don't want to see you or talk to you." Holly answered in a husky voice. An hour and half of crying, pacing the floor and loud rehearsing for an argument left her with red eyes and very little voice.
"Okay, what are you mad about now?"
"You know perfectly well why I'm mad. And you know I have every right to be mad."
"If I knew I wouldn't be asking." Jake shouted.
"You always act like you don't know what you did. But, you do.”
"No, I don't. Open this door. If you don't open this door right now I'm going to knock it down and then you can explain to your Dad what happened when he comes to fix it." Jake clenched his teeth and loudly threatened.
"You wouldn't."
"Watch me. I told you the last time you locked yourself in I would not be locked out of my own bedroom. And I won't sleep on the couch while you pout."
"Don't you dare knock down that door. Daddy wouldn't like it. We're just renting remember."
"Renting or not I'm coming in one way or another." Jake yelled as he hit the door with his shoulder. “Holly, I'm tired of yelling through this door. Open it!"
"No! You can stay out there. Or stay anywhere you want. I don't care. Maybe, you’d like to go stay with Lisa?”
”Lisa? What does Lisa have to do with this?”
“You know perfectly well what she has to do with this.”
“Half the time I don’t know what you’re talking about when you get in one of your snits. Unlock the door!”
Jake slammed his shoulder into the door and then wished he hadn’t. It hurt.
"Jake, stop!"
"Unlock the door!"
However, hurt or not it worked. "Okay, but I still don't want to see you or talk to you. I mean it." Holly promised as she hurried to unlock the door.
"Well, close your eyes and keep your mouth shut and I'll do the talking." Jake said with narrowed eyes as he came through the door and slammed it shut behind him. "Now, what is the problem?"
"You know what it is. Stop pretending you don't."
"Holly, if I knew, believe me I wouldn't be asking." Jake wondered once more, why can't women fight fair? Why do they always have to fight before the fight? Why can't they just say it and get it over with?
"I know Lisa was at the Country Club with you. . . and you promised you would never see her again." Holly accused and looked at him with tear-filled eyes.
"Lisa! I wasn't with Lisa. I played racquetball with Alex. You know that."
"I also know Lisa was there. I saw her car."
"Saw her car! What were you doing there?"
"I was passing by."
"You don't just pass by the Country Club."
"Well . . . I was going to leave a surprise for you in the car until I saw her car. You were with her." Holly stated while wiping her eyes and then blowing her nose. “She has always managed to show up wherever you are and you know it. For God’s sake she even crashed our wedding reception. Why wouldn’t she be at the Country Club?”
Jake saw her chin tremble as she caught her breath and understood how miserable she was.
"Holly, I wasn't with Lisa. She may have been there but I didn't see her. There were forty or fifty other people there too." He pleaded.
"She went there to find you and you know it. You couldn't have avoided her. You know you couldn't." Holly yelled while more tears streamed down her face.
Jake gave up and sat down on the edge of the bed and started removing his tennis shoes.
"What are you doing?" Holly asked incredulously.
"Undressing."
"Why? Why are you undressing. You're not thinking. . . "
"I usually undress before I take a shower. Why? What were you thinking?" Jake smiled to himself and thought maybe sex would settle this argument.
"You can't take a shower in the middle of an argument." Holly clenched her fists and thought why can't men fight fair. They never admit when they're wrong. They never want to finish an argument. They just walk away. Well, not this time.
"I don't see how we can argue when you don't want to see or talk to me. So, I thought at least I'd feel better after a shower." Jake said hoping logic would lead to progress and a solution.
"I obviously have no choice but to see you and talk to you. Do I?"
"What's left to fight about? I told you I didn't see Lisa. You either believe me or you don't. Make up your mind." Jake stated and waited for her reaction.
"You. . . you don't even fight fair." Holly covered her face and wailed.
Jake grinned, walked over scooped her up in his arms carried her over and laid her on their bed. Lying down beside her, he pulled her arms above her head and held them with one hand not really sure what she might do next. Pulling his handkerchief from his shorts pocket, he wiped her eyes and nose. He then kissed her while moving his body partially over hers.
"I don't want to fight with you. I love you, Holly. And I swear. . . I didn't see Lisa. I'll round up some . . . witnesses if you like." Jake told her as he kissed and nuzzled her throat. "I love you, Baby. You're all I want."
Feeling her body start to relax and conform to his Jake released her arms and put his knee between her thighs. Holly rolled slightly toward him and squirmed lower to press her mound against his hard muscled thigh.
His kisses deepened as his tongue explored her lips and mouth while his thumb caressed the side of her breast. Her arms across his shoulders tightened as her body curved to his and his thigh pressed harder against her.
Her breath came faster and harder as she whispered, "Touch me. Please, touch me."
Jake reached under her t-shirt and cupped her breast in his hand his thumb teasing the nipple to a hard erection.
Holly rolled away, stripped off her t-shirt, shorts and panties and reached to unfasten his shorts, pull his clothes off, and threw them on the floor.
Jake pulled her down beside him to caress her nipple with his tongue and his hand caressed the soft and familiar curves. His fingers explored the delightful crevice between her legs causing passionate moans and shuddering tremors throughout her body.
He felt her passion grow as she threw her head back and moved her body even closer to his. He rolled over, supporting some of his weight on his elbows enjoying the satin feel of her skin and the softness of her body under his.
Holly pulled him closer as he held her in his arms and then pushed him off beside her. "I'll do it." She whispered.
Jake watched and waited as she straddled him and slowly started lowering herself to him and the wonderful remembered oneness.
Fondling her breasts as she set the rhythm Jake struggled for control.
She continued varying the rhythm to help him gain control and to thoroughly enjoy herself.
Finally, Jake reached his limit of endurance and flipped her over on her back, mounted her and soon brought both of them to a fiery and very satisfying climax.
Resting in Jake's arms while relaxing in the afterglow of a passion satisfied Holly asked, "You really didn't see Lisa, did you?"
"Lisa, who?" Jake mumbled as he fell asleep.
